Quite moist!

So...presently we have been under a cloud. We are experiencing a period of cooler, wetter weather which is predicted to last over a week. The east coast and places further west into central Queensland have enjoyed prolonged periods of rain, though as usual our predicted rainfall amounts have not materialised. We have had about 17 mls over the last three days which is better than nothing but it is not what we hoped for. Still, more rain is predicted onwards into next week so hopefully there is much more to come.I had to cut the grass the other day around Blue Moon as it has really grown since we finally had some rain. The poor lawn mower has been idle for about 18 months but I managed to get it going. It was also nice to have a quick swim in the dam at the weekend, before the cooler weather set in but we are hoping that, weather permitting it will be back up to its normal level soon.I was reading today that it is likely that a cyclone may form over the weekend out in the Coral Sea and early indications suggest it may head our way. We need some biblical rain to get the Severn river flowing again and enough to fill Storm King Dam so the ongoing water restrictions can be lifted in the town. The downside of all this cloudy weather is we are having to conserve power as the solar batteries are not getting charged as usual plus our solar water heating system relies on the sun so our showers, at present, are quite a bit cooler, if barely warm.

The Prophet of Doom!

So...an elderly gentleman, who claims to be a renowned scientist came into the 'Book Cave' today and was greeted by someone he knew and they proceeded to have a conversation that was far too loud for their surroundings. I could not help but eavesdrop as I tidied some shelves.I was not deliberately paying attention at first as the elderly scientist commented upon the 'crazy weather' at the moment. Well, it's hardly crazy but I think he was referring to the fact that yesterday the temperatures were in the high 30s and today we are barely scraping the low 20s. A significant drop, I grant you, but I had not been overly concerned by it.The elderly scientist however had had a phone conversation with someone in Melbourne who apparently told him such a strange 'spike' in the weather had not occurred since the elephants froze in Russia. Now he had my full attention."When was that?" asked the other chap."20,000 years ago" said the elderly scientist "before the last ice age, so another ice age is coming."I am not a scientist but you would think a renowned one would not mix up his elephants and mammoths. He wasn't finished though, as if that is not enough for us to worry about he went on to prophesy to his friend that World War Three would begin before the end of 2020 between two superpowers.I felt I was wasting what little life I had left spending time tidying book shelves. He finally left saying "All the best" to my colleague that served him leaving behind a 'Book Cave' of despondent people. The audacity!

Bye Bye Brexit and Farewell Roxy!

So...finally Brexit is over. I don't want to hear any more about it or ever see Nigel Farage again. On an even sadder note, today we said 'farewell' to Roxy. She was the best car I have ever had, despite her little idiosyncrasies. We got her soon after we arrived here in October 2013. She was an elderly lady then but she served us well over the years, and carried us on many a road trip and we pretty much ran her into the ground in the end. She still looked in pretty good condition at the end despite having dodgy steering and having donated her 'drive shaft' to Rhonda the Honda...
