Return to Carnarvon Gorge.
So...this week we were on a camping trip away at Carnarvon Gorge with Ros. We went on Tuesday and came back yesterday, Friday. We have been before awhile ago but it is so spectacular it is worth a second visit.
It's a heck of a long trek to get there. We set off at 6.00am on Tuesday, picked Ros up in Toowoomba and arrived at the Gorge around 4.30 ish. There was an awful lot of smoke about and the National Park appeared to be on fire but the people in Reception at the campsite told us that it was a 'controlled burn', about 11 kms away and they were monitoring it.
Wednesday turned out to be epic with us setting off for a short walk but we ended up walking all the way to Big Bend and back again, a total of 23 kms. We could hardly walk afterwards and arriving back at the campsite discovered that the 'controlled burn' was actually a wildfire and that the park was closing the following day at 3pm.
We had enough time to walk to see the Ampitheatre and Moss Garden on the Thursday before the park closed.
We had a nice big camping area but were close to the recycling bins and the camp kitchen where incredibly selfish people slammed down bin lids or chatted loudly while washing up after we had gone to bed. Some neighbours played banjo and sang for awhile every night and our immediate neighbour, one evening responded with some techno didgeridoo music.
Why bother going camping out into the wilds if you have to ruin the peace with your flippin' music?
Hmmm, perhaps I am becoming a grumpy old man!
