The Silence of the 'Chooks'.

So...as dawn broke at Frogknot this morning it was very quiet. Sadly yesterday our Rooster Modi was taken by a fox in the early afternoon. We found a trail of feathers leading down the hill. Our ten 'girls' will have to stay in their pen for awhile now as, undoubtedly after such an easy meal, the fox will return to try his luck again in the coming days. It is very sad. He is the third rooster we have lost to a fox. Yudhisthira, the greatest rooster of them all, was the first. We sent our other rooster Odin away after he became a bit aggressive towards female visitors, but our replacement for Yudhisthira was Thor, son of Odin, who we got from the people we exiled Odin to. Modi was on death row here at Frogknot with two of his brothers, destined for the 'pot' but when a fox took Thor, Modi son of Thor got a last minute reprieve to rule the roost.Sheng-Mu is broody and so we have slipped eight blue araucana eggs under her, laid by our grand old dame, Pacha so we can hopefully continue the Frogknot line. Now we wait 28 days...but that is a very long time in these present times and a lot can happen in 24 hours!
