A life ‘Down Under’!

Backtrack - Whitby.

So…Will and I went to Whitby for Christmas. We wanted a break after Mum passed away and didn’t want to spend Christmas alone in Mum’s house. Our Hotel was on the North Cliff at Whitby and was full of coach loads of pensioners who appeared to do the same thing every year.

The first room they gave us didn’t have a shower and there was a loud kitchen fan right outside the window. Will went down to see if we could get another room. I didn’t hold out any hope but he charmed the receptionist and we got a quieter room with a bath!

The hotel put on a cold buffet for Christmas Day as the kitchen was closed. It was £30 per person and was pretty terrible. There was a lot of meat that Will could not eat but there was some salmon so he did not go hungry. The sausage rolls were very dry and there were no salads. Drinks were extra but the waiter waved the cost after he read how unhappy the room was.

We spent the days exploring the North East coast. The weather was overcast but remained dry. We went to Staithes and Runswick Bay one day and Scarborough and Ravenscar another day. We called in at Robin Hood’s Bay on the way back.

Ashby again.

So…last weekend we went down to Ashby in New South Wales to see Tracy and catch up after a long time away. On Staaurday Will and I went for a swim in the ocean on Back Beach at Angourie, we had lunch at the Pacific Hotel in Yamba and then went to Grafton in the afternoon for and art event. We had a lazy Sunday but on Monday we got up early to go looking for Black Swans. Will has an exhibition in Wagga Wagga in August and part of the exhibition is on the fate of the Black Swans on the Murrambidya River. Luckily we found some at Everlasting Swamp National Park near Lawrence on the Clarence River and Will got some recordings that he can hopefully use. We came back on Tuesday after a surprise encounter with a pair of Brolgas…
