Staying ‘Up Over’ for a while.
After the flood.
So...this weekend we went down to visit Tracy at Ashby. We saw the aftermath of the recent flooding in northern New South Wales. The river had risen up under Tracy's house but had subsided now leaving the ground was muddy and fences strewn with debris. We had the chance to get down to the sea and wander some beaches, visit Will's sister Shirley and had fish and chips at Illuka.
Weather bomb!
So... for the last week the weather in South East Queensland has deteriorated badly with a slow moving low pressure system bringing torrential rain starting up around the Sunshine Coast and slowly moving south over Brisbane and the Gold Coast. It is currently drenching North Eastern New South Wales and the river is up under Tracy's house down on the Clarence. In one 24 hour period Mt Glorious near Brisbane recorded 709 mms of rain which is over half a metre. We were luckily spared the deluge and have had about 60 mms altogether. Brisbane's Wivenhoe dam went from being 60% full to presently standing at 180% capacity in a matter of days. ( I know but apparently there is extra space to allow for flood waters). Seven people have sadly lost their lives. Many areas of Brisbane are flooded and today schools are closed across the affected areas and people have been asked to stay and work from home if possible. What with this and events in the Ukraine it's difficult to stay positive.
