A life ‘Down Under’!
100 mms!
So...we have had a lot of rain in the last few days, just short of 100 mms in all. All our tanks are overflowing (35,000 litres) and the dam has just reached its highest level ever and is hopefully still rising. Water is running off the hill behind us and the garden is sodden.
Yesterday Quart Pot Creek in town flooded over quite a few bridge crossings and the Severn River in Glen Aplin, just down the road, rose over the bridge on Mt Stirling Road. Luckily Will had the day off so didn't have to negotiate all the diversions because of blocked roads to get to work. We went out and did some work, clearing fallen trees off the road and also diverting 'run off' to try and limit damage to the road.
A year and a half ago everything was bone dry because of the prolonged drought and now we have more water than we need or can collect. The 85 mms we got in one night on Wednesday broke the record set 140 years ago for the most rain during November.
Despite the droughts, the terrible bush fires and the devastating floods the Government here lags behind the rest of the World in its duty to combat climate change and still fights to protect and maintain the coal mining industry because of the jobs it provides. Yep, just like most countries in the World the leaders are a bunch of idiots.

A distinct lack of appreciation!
So...having a pesky Fox about is definitely affecting all our lives and especially the chooks in Fort Yudhisthira who have been locked up for weeks now.
Coming home one night last week after dark, we startled a pack of around six Fox cubs playing on the road down the hill.
Aaaaaaaaaaggggghhhh! No wonder this adult is determined to find food! It looks like there is no end in sight to our Fox troubles.
This week I have built a new portable chicken coop...
...and have been fixing up the fence around the old, overgrown pen down near the garden. We are going to move the Fort Yudhisthira chooks down nearer to us and into a pen where there is undergrowth for them to scratch about in.
We will be able to partition part of the old pen off and move the Silkies out of the garden coop and into there if we go away for the weekend. All the chooks will be in Fox proof accommodation.
It's been a lot of work and I don't think the chooks appreciate all the efforts we are going to to keep them safe!
