Urgent repair.

So...it would seem that, unbeknownst to us, water has been leaking from the roof into the wall that collapsed yesterday and also into the books on the bookshelf that was on the other side of the wall inside the house. I cleared all the collapsed debris away today and when Will got back from cheese making we set about trying to resolve the leaky roof. More rain is forecast in the next few days and while the hole in the wall can wait, we need to stop the rain from coming in. The problem it seems is that the walls have sunk so much that the supporting roof beams have lessened the slope on the roof. We weighed up the options and in the end went for the easiest and just stuffed bits of wood under the tin to raise it up higher and increase the slope of the roof down to the gutter. It looks much better and the next downpour will prove us right or wrong.

Wall Fall Down!

So...look what happened late this afternoon...

...Part of the wall of Frogknot collapsed. We have had quite a bit of rain these past few days and some of the straw bales look sodden. It doesn't appear that anything further is in danger of collapse and hopefully we can attend to it at the weekend and patch it up a bit.

So...here is the 'chook killer' lurking around and about this afternoon. Sadly it looks in a pretty bad state but I hope we can catch it soon because our poor chooks are fed up of being penned up.

The Brazen Beast.

So...today on hearing the silkies outside causing a commotion I went to the window to investigate. At first I couldn't see any reason for the fuss and then spotted the fox trotting along the edge of the trees towards the house. It turned and came down the line of our hail net fence and then stood and looked at the alarmed silkies on the other side. It was completely unaware that I was watching it and I should have thought to grab my camera to get a picture of it up close but my annoyance kicked in and I hammered on the window sending it hurtling away, it's mangy tail flapping behind.

I hope the shock has made it think twice about coming back...but I doubt it.
