So...this little fellow had a quarrel with Mum last night and there was a lot of chasing going on across the roof. He has to go out into the big wide world now. I was reading that usually available dens are are fully occupied by adult possums and a possum without a den will not survive. This means that as juvenile possums become independent and disperse many will die from being unable to establish a home range.

I was worried about Jnr because he was making his den in the roof until we blocked it all off. I heard him last night trying to get back in the roof again and actually thought he had managed it but this evening he hopped out of the possum box on the deck.

I have spent much of the day today building a new box for him in case Mum decides to sleep in the deck box. I was hoping to get it finished and set up tonight at the back of the house but it will have to wait until tomorrow now.

We have had a busy few days working on house improvements...more on that tomorrow.

A Possum P.S.

So...our naughty boy did not attempt to get into the roof this morning but slept somewhere else instead. Tonight Mum reappeared after dusk. I think she might have been sleeping in the box today. Just before bed Jnr appeared too so this morning he might find the access to his usual sleep quarters a little troublesome.

I am thinking I might have to make him a box of his own now he has gone solo.

He's a very naughty boy!

Yes! He got back in again! He is some kind of possum contortionist!

I know it looks like it would be easy to get in but that's because we had to make an easy exit for him tonight. We blocked up the the way he got in firmly, during the day today and have fastened up the gap he came out of tonight, so hopefully, finally, the roof is possum proof.

Famous last words....

He's a naughty boy!

Look who has been sleeping under the eaves again!

Yesterday we fixed up the eaves at the back of the house because this little fellow has been getting in to sleep on the shade cloth we have put up to cover the roof eaves at the top of the house. Will watched him this morning trying to get in again and he managed to squeeze in above fascia board we put up yesterday to block him off.

Here he is coming out this evening. As soon as he was out Will was up there blocking up the gap...so hopefully that's it now. No more roof squatting! (How many times have we said that before.?)

He has a perfectly decent, vacant home to sleep in. What's his problem with it?
