Trapped!

So...since the demise of Branwen I have been baiting the trap again for the last few nights. The first night I also set up the camera but the only thing it captured was 50 short videos of the early morning ravens stealing the cheese!

I set the trap again last night but did not bother to set up the camera and as I walked away thought 'I bet I get something now while there is no camera'.

This morning the ravens were making their usual raucous fuss and the chooks were a bit vocal but it seemed more like their normal 'I'VE LAID AN EGG!' call.

Still, I went to check and as I got nearer it did look like the trap had been sprung but I could see nothing in it until I got closer. It was another feral cat...the stripy one I had caught on video before in June.

It was definitely not happy to see me and growled ferociously all the time I was carrying the trap down to the house.

I deposited it at the Council Animal Pound on my way to the Book Cave this morning.

That's one less predator on Thorndale Ridge...but not the one I really want!!!

Five o'clock fox!

So...this afternoon we lost Branwen. There was a commotion and Andrew, who is up visiting, shouted and as I got outside I saw something fox coloured running off with one of our black hens. I ran after to try and catch up but lost the trail. Later, checking on the others I could see it was Branwen missing. Arke and Pacha are our other black hens. They are the only ones left from our original flock. Losing Branwen is sad enough but losing Pacha or Arke would have been slightly worse.

Poor Branwen. I would set the fox trap tonight except I doubt it will be hungry now plus we are off on an adventure tomorrow and so it will have to wait until we get back.
