Staying ‘Up Over’ for a while.

'That darned possum!'

So...there was frantic toing and froing across the roof as the sun came up this morning as our 'unwanted' house guest tried to gain access to the roof space. She tried both sides to no avail and just when we thought we had finally won....she yet again defied belief and found another gap over the bedroom window. This afternoon Will was up there with an expanding foam gun to seal off all the smallest gaps he could find except the one she got in.She kept us waiting the longest tonight before she finally emerged. I was getting worried thinking she had perhaps been sleeping behind one of the gaps Will had filled with the foam and she had got a face full and her nostrils had been sealed off! It was after 9.00 when she finally came out. She had the cheek to sit on the bedroom window sill.IMG_20200221_46405Will was straight up the ladder to seal off the final gap but as if she knew what was going on she dashed back up and back into the hole!We had to wait until she came out again! This time we didn't see her come out but I heard her on the deck roof. We were watching tv so finished the programme we were watching them went out to seal up the last hole. She was nowhere to be seen so we hope she didn't go back in because if she did she's sealed in.I don't know what is going to happen in the morning now but it never seems to go how we expect it to.

'Will no one rid me of this turbulent possum?'

So...we were woken by gnawing and scratching before dawn as our Possum tried to gain entry into the roof space again. Failing to find a gap after our renewed efforts last night she ran around to the other side of the roof, which we blocked off last week and unbelievably managed to get in there!Tonight she took ages to emerge and when we finally heard movement discovered she was stuck and was trying to gnaw her way out. Will had to go up the ladder and actually remove some of the blocking material to allow her to get out and then we blocked off all the gaps again. There can surely be no way in in the morning! She is going to have to find somewhere else but I reckon tomorrow is going to be a difficult day for her.

The cheek!

IMG_20200219_22960Blatantly flaunting her occupancy!Yes! She somehow got back in after our efforts last night, and tonight she kept us waiting far longer than normal for her to come back out before we could go back up and reinforce the potential gaps. Surely that's it now. We have had enough!

The end of a saga?

So... tonight we were finally able to seal off the last bit of the roof after buying the materials we needed at the weekend. We prepared everything this morning while Little Miss Galore slept with her tail sticking out of the eaves. Tonight, after she finally left her sleeping quarters, Will was up the ladder to block it off once and for all, by torchlight, braving the swarms of mosquitoes that have appeared after the rain! The possum box has been fastened up on the tree on the deck so the evicted party does have suitable living quarters if she chooses to avail herself of them.I am expecting a few mornings of noisy attempts at re-entry before she finally settles somewhere else but hopefully this is the end of the possum eviction saga.Or is it?
