So...today I was doing some weeding in the garden when I felt a painful sting on my finger. My immediate thought was that it was an ant but on removing my hand from the undergrowth found a spider attached to my hand. It was not particularly big, about 2 cms long, but it was not what I expected and was a little alarming.We think it was a trapdoor spider as they live in burrows in the ground. Apparently they rarely bite but when they do I can attest that it is painful. Thankfully their bite is of low risk to humans and non toxic.For a while following the encounter I kept an eye out for after effects. I did feel an urge to kill the flies that were pestering me but that is nothing new and I have had that urge a lot since moving to Australia.
