Staying ‘Up Over’ for a while.

Good times.

So...Since our Solway trip last Wednesday this is the first time that I finally have a moment to catch you up with our adventures...Thursday saw Storm Doris pass over us and a visit to the hospital for Mum's eye appointment which all went well apart from the fact that a parking ticket was waiting for us on the windscreen when we got back. £40!How can anyone predict how long their hospital appointment is going to take? It would seem that they expect you to overestimate and pay more than perhaps is necessary, to be on the safe side, for your parking but either way THEY win. People will put in more pound coins than might be needed but underestimate and they sting you for £40.I am going to write a letter!Friday found us walking in the Lake District. We climbed Castle Crag in the Jaws of Borrowdale, starting off from Rosthwaite and walking via Seatoller to Castle Crag. After Storm Doris had caused trouble in the Midlands she merely left a welcome sprinkling of snow upon the fell tops in the Lake District which made the walk even more dramatic and picturesque as it would have otherwise been.

Old Haunts

So...today I returned to 'Old Haunts' to show Will where I used to live from 1987 until 1993. I used to live in a house in Bowness on Solway, a village on the southern shore of the Solway Estuary. It is 'famous' for now being the start, or end of the Hadrian's Wall walk which also starts, or ends in Wallsend over near Newcastle in the North East.

Edinburgh - Two lovely days.

So...we are on the eve of returning to Cumbria after our long weekend in the Scottish capital. We have had such a wonderful time.Yesterday we left Nathan in the flat to continue writing his Personal Statement for his University applications and Lewis, Will and I headed out to Blackford Hill.  We enjoyed the magnificent view of the city from the top before catching a bus to the other side of the city for a wander in the Royal Botanic Gardens. We walked home through the city and after dinner in the evening walked back to the Royal Mile for our 'Haunted and Hidden' underground vault tour at 9.30pm.Our guide was Stephanie, with her indeterminate European accent. She seemed quite shy on her first greeting of us but frightened the life out of me as she yelled "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!" at the start of the tour, before beckoning us with a finger and coyly adding "Follow me."The tour was O.K. Stephanie was very animated and knew her script but there were three American lads and an Aussie and his loud mouthed girlfriend also on the tour who just made silly comments and giggled through to whole thing. They just showed themselves up and did nothing to make the rest of us feel better about an America under Trump.
