The Curse of the Midget Gem!

So.........a few years ago a chunk of one of my teeth broke off whilst I was enjoying a Midget Gem. I went to the dentist and he said it needed a crown but for the cost I could probably have bought one of the Queen's second hand crowns so I went for the cheaper option of just filling it in with........oh, I don't know.......cement probably.Whilst over in the UK recently.....in Edinburgh....to be exact, I discovered the repair to said tooth had suddenly gone......it is time to visit a dentist again.I rang The QE II Dental Clinic this morning, I need to get in quick as my Pension Card will be forcible removed from me shortly when my 13 weeks Carer's Pension grace dries up."Today is all booked up" said the woman on the phone, "but I can offer you a student dentist tomorrow.""A student dentist?" I slowly repeated, with some concern in my voice."Well, a final year student," she said "they have about a month left of their course.""O.K." I said. My appointment is for 1.30 pm tomorrow. What could a Dental Student possibly learn in their final month?.......I hope it is not;'The Art of Drilling Painlessly - a four week course'or'How Not to Kill your Patient - a four week course'or'Hen's Teeth! (Completed) O.K, take a deep breath.....it's time for real people and not just that corpse you've been practising on!' - a one week practical course.

(No) Labour Day.

It is a public holiday........Labour Day, commemorating the achievements of the Australian Labour Movement. The origins lie in the 'Eight Hour Day' movement...."On 21 April 1856 Stonemasons and building workers on building sites around Melbourne, Australia, stopped work and marched from the University of Melbourne to Parliament House to achieve an eight-hour day. Their direct action protest was a success, and they are noted as the first organized workers in the world to achieve an eight-hour day with no loss of pay, which subsequently inspired the celebration of Labour Day." (Wikipedia)There will be little 'Labour' today.Daylight Saving Time started yesterday too in NSW, ACT, SA, V and Tasmania........It doesn't change here in QLD but somehow my phone decided to change too making us get up an hour earlier than we needed too!It is the beginning of Spring but it feels like Summer.......I have not seen a cloud since we arrived and the temperature has been hovering around 30 degrees. As for the sock drawer rodents........I have caught three already! (Update.......four!)

The Shock of the New!

It is ages since we have been to Rocklea Markets on a Saturday morning.......but owing to jet lag recovery we were awake at 6.00 am and headed out.My, how things have changed.....it seems the place has been revamped with a different layout and lots of new additions.....including a new 'British' stall that had me crying out for joy!I bought a large bottle of Vimto, some Tunnock's Caramel Bars and some McVities Caramel Digestives! We were concerned that the Tender Golden Calamari on offer was not as it used to be. Gone was the tented awning and in its place a food trailer with no familiar faces......the price had also increased by a dollar to $9 a serving. We needn't have worried, the Yorkshire owner made an appearance and it was just as tender and delicious as it has always been.
