Staying ‘Up Over’ for a while.
Oh, I almost forgot!........
......I have my new glasses! I picked them up last week.I have a pair with varifocal lenses which I have adapted too quite quickly, without any dizzy spells, but most importantly now I have some prescription sunglasses.Bring on the Summer!
Another 'Swell' day!
I cannot believe it has been a year since we were last at Currumbin for the 'Swell' Festival......but it is.We enjoyed it so much last time that we drove down today to view the sculptures by the sea again....
Arcadia.
Wandering South Bank last night we found it transformed into 'Arcadia' for the duration of the Brisbane Festival from the 5 th until the 26 th September. There were pop-up bars, eateries and entertainment venues. The Festival ends on the 26 th with Riverfire.....a huge fireworks display along the Brisbane River.
In Limbo....and thoughts on getting out.
It is nearly one month since Dulcie left us and obviously life is not the same.We have had to give some thought as to where we now go from here. Will needs and wants to finish out the school year at the Kindergarten. He does not really want to leave but the teacher he works with is retiring. They have worked really well together and a replacement is currently being sought. He has decided he will also hand in his notice and leave at the end of the year too. We will remain here in the house until then. We were a little concerned at first that we would have to leave here sooner than we wanted but that is not the case, however 7 Celtis St is not the same any more for us and we are unsettled and ready to move on as soon as we can.The plan is to move up to Frogknot in the New Year and start to build the new house. While we were there at the weekend we thought a bit more about it and chose a new spot for the house.
Originally we were going to build behind the present house but concerns about the proximity of large trees and possible bush fires have made us rethink. The best place is where the present house is. It is close to the dam for water and in the open for solar power. We were originally going to build a three story tower, level one from cob (clay and straw), level two from cordwood (cob and logs...like the little annex we started building onto the present house) and the top level of straw bale, but we now we are going with a single story cob house with an earth roof.It will possibly be only two rooms, a living and bedroom area (Frogknot-let) but once complete we can move in, demolish the old house and build a two story dwelling in its stead, again out of cob, and Frogknot-let can become guest accommodation.Firstly we need to erect some kind of storage shed for all the stuff that we shall be bringing from Brisbane. But how shall we live?Well, we are hoping to find part time jobs, Will in another Kindergarten and I have bitten the bullet and put myself on the supply teacher list. If we can both work a couple of days a week we will have enough money to live and on the days we are not working, work on the house. It is a kind of a plan.....not set in stone and open to change......but it is the promise of exciting times ahead.
Lazing about.
A cheeky mouse was nibbling something right next to the bed last night in the dark and didn't stop when we moved or even talked. It only dashed off when Will swiped at the netting. This morning we were woken by a very loud crow on the roof...it was so loud I actually thought it was in the house at first. We went for a wander up Winkler Rd and met the Harvey's, neighbours across the valley, on their way back from a holiday in Yamba. We had a bath on the rock tonight under the Milky Way.I am suffering from hay-fever methinks.....it might be the pollen from the Wattle blossom, but my nose is constantly itching, running and there is probably not a Kangaroo or Possum within a mile due to the loud sneezing....nothing.....except for a brazen mouse!
