R.I.P "Our Telly" 2011 - 2015

So.........I finally got a hold of the guy who was fixing 'Our Telly' yesterday. He has been hard to get hold of recently and at one point I thought he had gone bust and left the country but no, he said he had tried to ring me yesterday but he didn't.The part he had been waiting for had finally arrived from the UK.....(it must have come on a slow boat via China!)......and he had discovered that that was not the problem after all and that it was another part and that would cost about $700!"I'm sorry," he said " but I have lost my money that I spent ordering that part."It cost him $120."Can you use it?" I asked."I will eventually," he said.It is so disappointing! The flippin' telly would have still been under warranty in the UK and we would have got it replaced by now.I hate Samsung!

Like a bat out of Hell!

So........things are a 'bit' different here after Dulcie's recent fall. She slipped in the bathroom and is now very anxious whenever she needs to go in there and we are all on edge too.Last night I woke at 3.00 am and thought I heard her going into the bathroom upstairs, but soon realised that the dull bump was just the wind rattling the window and what sounded like her rubber walker wheel skidding on the tiles was just Will gently snoring.I lay there trying to get to sleep and was just dozing off when there was a much louder bang and I sat up and grabbed Will who cried out in alarm."I heard a bang," I said and we both leapt out of bed. Will was up the stairs in no time to check she was OK but I realised that the sound seemed to have come from downstairs where we are and discovered that it had been the soap falling into the metal laundry tub.I told him what it was when he came back."That's weird," he said, "She was sat on her bed just about to go to try and go to the bathroom herself."Spooky! He laughed saying that while she was washing her hands she said,"Good God! Look at my hair," and he replied,"Never mind yours, look at mine!"He did look a sight standing there with his jumper back to front too.We are going to try and get some kind of wireless buzzer or bell today that she can press in the night if she needs to get up. We can't always rely on the Angels to alert us.

Soup.

So.......while we were away Tracy made some lovely broccoli and sweet potato soup. As the weather is unusually cold here at the moment I decided to have a go myself today.I didn't have a recipe but fried an onion in butter and then browned some diced sweet potato and broccoli before adding water and a stock cube and simmering for awhile.Dulcie was watching TV so I warned her that it would be noisy while I blended it."Ooh, soup, I love soup," she said.I blended it and added a little full cream milk and it was done.At lunch time I asked Dulcie if she would like some soup."Good God no," she chuckled, "it will spoil my dinner."I was going to point out it was her dinner when she said,"I'll just have a bit of quiche."I had some soup and it was lovely.

Friday 10th July

This was our last full day in Ashby and the last full day of our break away. The day started very misty and cold and after a short walk with the dogs we spent the afternoon at Iluka on the coast.
