W.I.V.

So.........last night we went to a special one off 'Women in Voice' concert at QPAC (Queensland Performing Arts Centre) which was the finale to a three day W.O.W  (Women of the World) festival. It was even more special because Annie Peterson was the host. Annie is a good friend of Will's and was part of the folk group 'One Straw' that Will used to be in. Annie started the Women in Voice concerts but most recently has only produced them rather than sing in them.......but she was back on stage last night.I tried to google a picture of Will's band 'One Straw' to add here but only got this........

This is NOT them!

Anyway we had a lovely evening out at the show, laughing at Carita Farrer Spencer and almost crying when Annie sang 'The Parting Glass', (she can yodel too!) and went out for Japanese gyozas afterwards with Ros and Andrew.

Father's Day.

So.........All three sons eventually remembered to wish me a happy Father's Day. Nathan was first with his wishes and therefore takes the lead as 'favourite son'. Josh wished me a 'Happy Farthest Day' and Lewis sent me the picture above which I found highly amusing.Sadly if you don't watch 'Game of Thrones'......you won't get the joke......and if you are tempted to start watching to get the joke.......don't if you are of a nervous disposition or easily offended.I thank you.

The Gold Class Experience.

So.......last night we went to the cinema as usual but used Will's Gold Class Gift Card given for his birthday last year by Shirley. We have been waiting for a good film to come along so that we can get the most from it. We went to see 'Jurassic World'......which has just had the biggest opening weekend of any film ever!Gold Class is not what we are used to on 'Cheap Tuesdays.'.......it was a different world. The cinema was in the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. Normally on a Tuesday we pay $4.50 for me and $6.50 for Will ( about  £2.20 and £3.20) but the Gold Class tickets were $28 each! When you first go in there is a lounge area with a bar and they hand you a menu. Some of the meal options were $75! There is waitress service at your cinema seats and they tell you that you can order drinks and refreshments which are brought out after 30 minutes, an hour or 90 minutes. We ordered two drinks and fries with dips, cost $30, to be brought out after 30 minutes. The cinema itself was just as big as we are used to but it only seated 32 people. The seats are huge leather chairs, in pairs, with a small table in the middle. The seats recline and foot rests come out as well.I was a bit worried about all the interruption of waitresses wandering about serving people during the film but in fact you hardly notice them they just appear out of the shadows and then slip away again into the darkness. The film was in 3D......(we saved $2 by taking our own 3D glasses.)We enjoyed the film. It was fun. Will jumped once at the thud of a dinosaur's footstep but it wasn't quite up to the first one. The moment in Jurassic Park when you hear the first thud and see the ripples in the coffee cup can not be matched. In all the evening cost just short of $90 (£45).It was a great experience (Thanks Shirley!) but you couldn't do that every week!

Scenes from a 'jalk'.

So.......armed with my new trainers I went for a 'jalk'........(a jog and a walk......but mostly walking). I am not yet up to going for a 'wog'..........( a walk and a jog.....but mostly jogging).......actually it was two days ago and my legs have still not recovered. I am creaking and hobbling about like someone more of Dulcie's age.Anyway, on my 'jalk' I came across 'The Black Pearl', Captain Jack Sparrow's pirate ship anchored in the Brisbane River after it was used recently out on Moreton Bay for scenes in the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
