Badger Galore
Staying ‘Up Over’ for a while.
Dagnabbit!
Our TV that so bravely and safely travelled by shipping container from the UK via the Suez Canal, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Hong Kong is playing up.It keeps switching on and off continually and we can only stop it by unplugging it.I have tried today to find information on local TV repairers but even the internet has been of little help. I did find a few numbers on a Yellowpages website that I rang but they had both been discontinued! I ask you........What use is that?Luckily, tonight I discovered that I have kept the receipt from 2011 and it is still under warranty so I have whipped an email off to Samsung to see what they say.Nothing much seems to be going right at the moment and 'Elaine' is enjoying the comfort eating.
Rising Damp.
So.........today it has mostly rained......non stop...... due to an East Coast Low which formed up near Fraser Island and then headed south. My weather app on my phone predicted 40 - 50 mm of rain today but it has already filled our rain gauge (140 mm) which I emptied and then it started to fill again. It seems that all the dams are full and they are talking of releasing water from them tonight. The garden here was saturated and about 3.30 pm this afternoon the downstairs here started to flood. We tried to block the back door with towels but it still came in and slowly crept across the floor meeting water that flowed through the foundations at the front of the house. it got to be about 2 inches deep in parts.Luckily, where we are in the Man Cave, most of our stuff is on an area of floor that is raised about four inches above the rest of the downstairs area so we have been spared a lot of mess. The rain eased and the water went down quite quickly, but a last fling torrent made it rise again suddenly. The worst seems to have passed now and the water is receding again. It never rains but it pours.
Wrapped up!
Ooh, it was chilly today! It only got to 18 degrees centigrade......the coldest day for a decade in some places around here.I had to put my tracky-dacks on and my fleece.
The Law is an Ass!
So.....a few days ago I had a phone call from a woman about the money that I am owed on my Carer's Pension because someone at Centerlink made a mistake and took an amount, I had written on my application form, of $225 to mean £225, thus I have been underpaid just over $100 a fortnight for a year.It seems that she has looked at the case and I am not going to be paid the money owed because I had a letter apparently, last May, which outlined what I was to be paid and I did not pick it up and inform them about it.I don't remember the letter nor can I find it in all the correspondence I have kept.It is all set out in the legislation apparently regarding informing clients and the period of time open for reply and dispute and my time has passed.I told her I didn't dispute it because I didn't know about it and that I assumed that they had done their maths correctly."We are a big organisation and sometimes we get things wrong," she said."Yes, you got it wrong but it is my fault for not informing you of something I wasn't aware of?""Yes," she said."If it had been the other way around and I was the one that owed you money you would pursue it no matter what the law said wouldn't you? I would end up having to pay you because that is the way things go but in this case a law is protecting you from making up for 'your' mistake"I hear what you are saying," she said."Can I appeal?""You can."I AM.
