Our Weekend.

We had a good weekend at Frogknot. We were a little fed up at first as we discovered two wet patches on the wall outside at the back where rain had been running down the walls and later on the first evening discovered the pipe under the sink was leaking....not like last time, where it had been gnawed through by rats, but because the back wall is shrinking and putting pressure on the plastic joints. The roof seems to be bowing more and we found that ants had colonised one of the poles...though they had apparently got rid of the termites that were there first. It was all a bit depressing and really, it is only a matter of time before it all starts to go badly wrong.Dulcie and I did not sleep brilliantly the first night. It rained a few times during the night but I didn't hear any creatures knocking about. On Saturday, Will cleaned out the stove flue and then we set about raising the verandah roof above the wet patches. We were successful and in the few further rain showers we got during the day we found that no water was dripping down the wall now.We had a game of cards to keep Dulcie amused and then Will pruned the fruit trees and I removed all the old, rotting logs Will had laid years ago to mark out future garden beds. It made me feel better and the place looked tidier. We managed to stream 9 News for Dulcie at tea time and she sat glued to the Ipad for 45 minutes. We both slept better the second night.
We left on Sunday about 11.00 ish. I drove us home.  Will brought back some tadpoles from the dam to put in our pond bath....I brought back some branches to decorate the Man-Cave for Christmas and I also brought back a small tree for a Christmas tree.Brisbane was hot and sticky....it had been so lovely and cool up at Frogknot.

Looking for Wiki.

We were up earlier today...as we are all spending the weekend at Frogknot. We had arranged for Lizzie to come earlier for the shower so that we could set off by at least 11.00 am.Lizzie arrived dead on 9.00 am.Just after she had left Dulcie and I were sat at the table when we heard;"Hello."There was a woman standing at the door.I got up and walked over to the door."Hello, I'm Elaine," she said.I had never seen her before and she didn't have any identification badges on but she smiled at Dulcie so I assumed that she must know her."Come in, " I said, opening the door....and she came in.I went and sat back down at the table expecting her to greet Dulcie properly but she didn't she just stood there dabbing her forehead with her hanky. After an uncomfortable silence......She said....."Where is she?""Sorry?" I said."Where is she?""Who?" I asked."Wiki" she said."Sorry who?" I asked , thinking she might have a speech impediment."Wiki." She said. "Oh, have I come to the wrong house?""I think you might have, " I said "there is no Wiki here. What house are you looking for?""7 Callitris St," She said.....(I am not joking.....it is the street at the end of Celtis St)."Oh, no, that is at the end of the street. It's funny, " I went on, " two women turned up the other day looking for the same house, was Wiki having a party?" I laughed."No," said Elaine, deadpan...." She's passed."The grin on my face was slowly erased and was replaced with a look of commiseration. She left."I thought it was someone you knew," I said to Dulcie back at the table."No, dear, never seen her before in my life."

The Peacock and the Shower Curtain.

So.....you know it is going to be one of those days when you wake to find a peacock perched on the end your bed with tail feathers fully displayed and a dead gecko in its beak. It was quite brazen in its attitude and scarcely moved as I slipped out of bed to dress. Will slept on oblivious. Only when I moved forward did it shriek and flap about the Man-Cave sending things flying off the little table in front of the sofa. I grabbed the nearest thing to hand....a new shower curtain we have bought for the toilet up at Frogknot and flung it over the peacock and it immediately calmed down. I bundled the bird up in the shower curtain by which time Will had woken from his slumber and, being an experienced poultry keeper in the past, took the bird from me and wrung its neck. We are keeping the tail feathers for decoration and are having roast peacock for dinner. That is the story that I wish I could say was true but sadly it is not....the truth is....Peta arrived at 2.00 pm, sweating more than a woman should..... if she is a woman......"Can I put the fan on?""This fan is on, dear," said Dulcie pointing to the ceiling fan."Yes, but it's not on me," said Peta from where she had slumped on the sofa. She raised herself and positioned the standing fan on her and switched it on."Where are you going today?" She asked us as we headed out."Indooroopilly Shopping Centre," we said."Ooh, lovely, " she said.We got some lunch there....Vietnamese Banh mi thit rolls and wandered the mall.In K Mart we found a peacock garden ornament to keep Francine the Flamingo company. It was only $16. We also got a new shower curtain for the toilet at Frogknot as the last one that was up had been shredded by strong winds. The peacock now stands proudly in the garden by the bath pond. We have named it of course....it seemed the perfect name for a male of the species......Peta!
