Possum Galore
A life ‘Down Under’!
The insulting complement.
"Is this your Grandmother?" Asked Jess, the new girl from Transition Care, this morning.Ooops! It made Will and I feel a bit younger....
'M' & 'M' - 'Maleficent' 'Magnificent?'......er.... no!
Our move back down to the man-cave has been fine...although I think I have slept through the light going on a few times. Luckily it shines right on Will so he has woken.Dulcie has been doing really well and has not been getting up as frequently in the night but when she does is managing well. So much so that tonight we ventured out to the cinema, leaving her home alone."You will make sure all the doors are locked," she said.We always do.I did feel uneasy about it all night expecting my phone to vibrate and find a message from Vitalcall to say 'Hurry home.'No message and once home it looked like she had not moved since we left her.We saw "Maleficent"....er....it wasn't very good. Angelina Jolie was good but for me it was her cheekbones that stood out. The more I reflect upon it the more I hate it. The three 'good' fairies were irritating and the handsome Prince looked like he was from One Direction...still I enjoyed my M&M's.
Fair Do's!
A second person has been killed by a crocodile this week in Australia. There was only one fatality resulting from a crocodile attack last year....this year we are only halfway through and there have been 2.A 62 year old man was snatched from a boat in the Kakadu National Park in front of his family. He was on the South Alligator River...which to me sounds ominous and I doubt I would be tempted to go out in a boat on it. Two large crocodiles near the incident were killed and human remains were found in one of them. Some people are calling for a cull...but hang on a minute...if you go where big crocodiles live you have to expect that they might be tempted to have a go at eating you. It's in their nature. This is an interesting website page:[embed]http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2014/06/09/interactive-how-likely-crocodile-attack-australia[/embed]They had a shark cull in Western Australia earlier this year after a surfer was killed. Surely that's the risk you take going out on a board into shark infested waters.....Can you really blame the shark?2 people were killed in Las Vegas in a Pizza Restaurant and another shopping in Walmart by a gun wielding couple intent on revolution....now you couldn't and shouldn't expect that.It seems to me we should call for a cull of all those people who have guns in their homes....they are  far more dangerous, and more likely to go berserk...and leave the crocodiles and sharks alone.
"Happy Birthday, Your Majesty!"
It is a National Holiday here in Australia today for the Queen's Birthday, well everywhere except in Western Australia. They celebrate her birthday on September 29th. I suppose it would be a bit much because they had a day off last Monday to celebrate Western Australia Day.We don't even celebrate it in the UK but it is even stranger that it is celebrated here in a country that held a Referendum in 1999 to find out if the people wanted to ditch Her Majesty and become a Republic.54% of the population said no to a Republic and so they still have a Queen. The Royal Family are nearly always on the news...last week it was reported that the Queen is still riding horses at 88. I wasn't really bothered. What would have been more interesting would have been them showing us how she got on it in the first place. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very popular too and their recent tour here went down very well. Our next public holiday is in October...Labour Day...ironic since no one labours upon it. Here in Brisbane there is an extra one this year in November for the G20 Summit. They are already getting worked up about all the World Leaders arriving here...Security will be tight....they are even talking about closing motorways so that the leaders can travel from their accommodation unhindered by commoners.Marvellous! In the meantime, "Happy Birthday, Your Majesty for your June 9th birthday. I hope you have another lovely day on September 29 th in Western Australia."
Blackout.
So...putting Dulcie to bed we reminded her to put on the bathroom light if she got up in the night. We reminded her last night. She got up..."I thought about putting the light on...but I didn't...I don't know why," she said."We would like you to put the bathroom light on," we said."I will do," she promised. At 11.00 pm the power went out.We had not given ant thought to what would happen if there was no power. We sat in the dark of the man-cave thinking what to do. Will went upstairs.I remembered the solar bedside lights we had so took them up.We switched them on and put one in the bathroom and one illuminating the hallway outside her room. She would wake up and wonder why she could not switch on her light but at least she would have some light to be able to get to the bathroom safely. We went back downstairs and tried to find out how long the outage was expected to be.The Energex website said the next update would be at 4.30 pm....but it was already after 11.00 pm?"We will have to wake her up and tell her," I said."We will before we go to bed," said Will.Almost immediately as he said that the lights came back on. It was a big relief.I went back upstairs to retrieve the solar lights. Her bedroom light was on. I thought she was awake but when I peeped in she was fast asleep. She normally sleeps on her right side but was lying on her left side facing into the room and me, the bright ceiling light shining above her.She switches her light on by remote and after a power outage it must automatically come on.I crept in very carefully dreading her waking up and seeing me creeping towards her. I reached out and carefully switched off the light by pressing the remote on her bedside table a few inches from her face and crept carefully out again.Mission accomplished!
