Pumping Pamela.

Pamela has arrived in Celia's bed.Yesterday I eavesdropped upon her doctor's visit.....well, those curtains that they pull around the beds are hardly soundproof! It would seem that Pamela has some skin infection caused by an infected mosquito bite!........There but for the grace of God go I!Pamela was relieved to discover it was not MRSA......and so was I!Pamela had visitors....a young lad and girl and a baby. They were crowding Dulcie and I out. The lad was large and had a bit of builder's bum going on which was distracting. They let Dulcie hold the baby."He's heavy!" She said.'Like his father,' I thought.Eventually they left and all was quiet.Dulcie and I concentrated upon our game of Euchre.Pamela broke wind loudly. "Oh!" She said.Dulcie frowned but she still won.Tonight we were back at the cards.A young woman came in with a big bunch of flowers for Pamela.  Pamela was touched but she didn't want them out of the paper because she was going home tomorrow. The girl sat down by Pamela's bed.Mary wandered over in her pyjamas to the sink just beside the girl. (You know Mary, she was opposite Dulcie in the first room she was in, in rehab. She is now in Maureen's old bed).Mary was brushing her tongue......I only say that because she does not appear to have any teeth...not that I have looked closely into her mouth.Mary was brushing her tongue for quite a long time. The girl was not chatting to Pamela....she was just looking at her mobile phone like an uninterested teenager.....but she is older.Mary finished and spat loudly into the sink just behind the girl who looked up from her phone quite startled.Pamela got out of bed to go and find a vase for her flowers. She took a step towards the door and broke wind and then another step and did it again! The girl dissolved into fits of giggles. It's hard concentrating on your Euchre hand in Ward 4b.

The day I ate a Possum!

"Happy Birthday to me!"I was up with the Currawongs ready for the builders....but they didn't come.It seems the carpenter's wife was having a baby......I think I've heard that story before......anyway he was otherwise engaged and no work was done today.I made my own birthday cake....another chocolate orange drizzle....my third. Well, it was not really for me....Dulcie only has two biscuits left from the last batch I made and so I thought I would give her some cake for a change. The first thing she said to me as I walked into the  hospital today was;"Happy Birthday Nick!"I was really touched that she had remembered because these days she can ask us 3 times what we are having for tea in about a 10 minute period. Two birthday cards arrived this afternoon......Well done Mum and Barbara....that was excellent timing! Will whisked me off to 'Tukka' tonight for his present to me. It is an Australian Restaurant in the trendy West End of Brisbane.I had:Confit of Tasmanian possum served with a strawberry and apple salad with a peach gastriqueMarburg emu fillet, sweet potato and Tonka bean puree and cider braised nashi pear with an orange jusNative flavoured damper, lemon myrtle dukkah and macadamia oil Lilly Pilly, Macadamia and Bunya nut saladand a  deconstructed finger lime pie.You will find the website here:http://www.tukkarestaurant.com.au/And the menu here:http://www.tukkarestaurant.com.au/news/a-la-carte/Will had the crocodile, the duck and the spiced stone fruit dessert. It was all quite delicious. The possum was very like stewed beef and the emu was the same texture as duck.Heck! I ate a possum!

Back to the bucket!

So.......we have had a wonderful weekend in Brisbane. We still visited Dulcie in the hospital and popped back to Celtis St on Saturday for a few things. Mal had been back and done some more work. I gasped when I opened the fridge to find my Pepsi Max gone!....before I realised we had taken it with us to the apartment. If you have looked at the pictures I posted you will know how great the apartment was.On Friday night we had dinner in Chinatown but on Saturday night we stayed in the apartment. Trace and Jen surprised me with a fantastic new camera for my birthday (it is tomorrow) and Will cooked a delicious Italian meal which we ate on the balcony. We then played Mah-jong until the early hours. It is now Sunday and we are back home. Trace and Jen are back by the river. We are back to the bucket!
